7 Must-dos before leaving for a holiday

8 must dos before leaving home for a holiday

If a family vacation is on your list this summer, then there are a few must dos at home before leaving for your summer holiday.  In order to enjoy your holiday, without being worried of what is going on at home and what you will find upon your return some preparation and planning is necessary.

1. Leave with a clean and tidy house

If you’re like me, when I get back from a holiday, I have a mountain of laundry to do and things to put away.  The last thing on my mind is to stay tidying the house from the messes left behind.

2. Ask someone to keep an eye on your home

Even if you have a security system at home, it is good to have someone who could check out your home in your absence.  Someone you can call, who can check your home if the alarm goes off…it could be nothing but better to check.

3. Leave a light on

Lights on mean someone is at home, but when you have them set on a timer in a specific area it shows that it is timed.  Therefore make sure that your timer has different settings.

4. Close your water supply

Water leakages happen when you least expect them.  Therefore before you leave the house, make sure you close your water supply to avoid any leakages that could damage your property and furniture.

5. Check the weather

Check the weather forecast of your area before leaving for your holiday.  The likelihood of a storm during the summer months is remote, but if you are travelling during the month of September better check the forecast.  If there are going to be strong winds, you might want to place plant pots in a safer spot and same goes for outdoor furniture.

6. Clean your fridge

Consume as much home-cooked meals as possible the days prior to your holiday, in particular fresh produce.  If something goes bad during this period your fridge would smell bad.

7. Plan your groceries for when you are back

Since you would have cleaned up the fridge before leaving, when you are back it would be empty.  Therefore, before you leave, do your grocery shopping online, save it and before you return schedule it to be delivered for when you arrive.
