What to Declutter before the Festive Season

What to declutter before the Festive Season

Only a couple of days ago we were still on summer mode, and now all of a sudden we are already seeing Christmas décor shops.  However, before getting all excited about Christmas decorations and all that comes with it, let’s get planning and decluttering.

If you want to enjoy and relax during the holiday season, you need to put some work beforehand. Click here to read more tips for a stress free Christmas.

The more you plan in advance, the smoother your holidays will be.

BELIEVE ME…IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Your first step, would be to start decluttering before you starting taking all your Christmas décor out and indulge in some shopping.

During the holiday season, we spend more time at home or entertaining, thus having decluttered your home before will make a huge difference.

Here is what you should declutter before the holiday season:

1. DECLUTTER TOYS

This time of the year is the ideal time to declutter toys (apart from before birthdays).  I always encourage to involve your children in the decluttering process…even if it might take long.

Believe me…it will get better and faster.

Explain to your children, that in order to make space for new toys, one needs to let go of some especially if they are broken.  Making space for new toys is always an excellent motivation.

As you start decluttering, you will immediately notice what kind of toys, your children love.  This is guides you through you process of choosing the right gift for your child.

2. DECLUTTER THE KITCHEN

It doesn’t matter if you are hosting or not during the holiday season, decluttering your kitchen is still essential.

Am sure you keep some extra chocolate boxes, for that last minute gift and that you will receive some kitchen related gifts.  Therefore make sure you have space.

During this period, we tend to bake more and spend more time in the kitchen.  Thus it is important to make sure you have the right ingredients and equipment, to make this period enjoyable to the maximum.

3. DECLUTTER HOME DECOR

Most likely whilst decorating for Christmas, you might need to move some your all year round décor.  It is the ideal time, to evaluate the décor you have, and decide whether to keep or not.

Whilst you are decorating for the festive season, make sure to check your decor and if they have seen better days, let them go.

4. IDENTIFY AN AREA THAT NEEDS DECLUTTERING

Not all homes are the same, but we all have an area which always gets cluttered.

Tackle that area.

Take the time, to go every item and evaluate whether it belongs there or if it’s something you can let go of.

5. DECLUTTER YOUR MIND

The holidays can cause a lot of stress, because sometimes we set our expects high.  There is no such thing as the perfect Christmas…some hiccups along the way are normal.

Getting your home ready, but mostly mentally to enjoy every moment is important.  Don’t over commit yourself.  You need space to rest and to have fun.

The earlier you start the better.  Make a plan, schedule the time in your planner and take action.
