How to Live a Clutter Free Life

Am sure that whenever you see photos of clutter free homes, you would wonder whether either anyone lives there or if your home would ever be in a clutter free state.  If you have children, it is understandable that you have clutter…because we all know how children love to collect every little item they find.  However it does not mean that you cannot keep clutter at bay…JUST FOLLOW THESE RULES:

1. Live within your means

If your ultimate goal is to live a less cluttered and simpler life, then you seriously have to consider this.  What this means, is to let your space dictate how much stuff you should have.  Having storage solutions that maximize your space is important but obviously there is a limit.  Don’t try to create space for your stuff.  Instead, go through your stuff and declutter.  Buy what your actually need.

2. Declutter regularly

Even though you feel that your stuff is just enough, it is important to declutter on a regular basis.  It is very normal to put something aside with the hope of repairing it and never get to it.  Schedule a few times every year, to do a decluttering session.

Make sure that you are decluttering the right way.  Don’t move stuff from one place to another without actually thinking whether you need it or not.  Have a plan…because if you are just moving stuff round your home, then most likely you need to organise your home better.

3. A place for everything

This may sound a cliché, but it’s one of the best tips you can get.  Everything needs to have a place where to go after it has been used, so it does not stand on your cupboards for months on end.  Using clear containers and baskets will help you in your quest.

4. Consider your junk drawer as your friend

Don’t be drastic and throw away everything that does not have a home.  Reality is that we all have those random pieces that never seem to find a home, or we don’t have much quantity that merit a dedicated drawer.  Here is where the junk drawer becomes your friend.  Get your junk drawer organised with clear containers, and place those random things so they don’t lay around all over the house.  Keep it organised and if it starts overflowing then it’s time to declutter your junk drawer.

5. Store things where it make sense for you

If it is more convenient to store some of your child’s hair accessories in the living then do so.  It would save you time in the morning when getting your child ready for school.  You don’t need to staying running all over the place, because you forgot something.

6. Stop clutter before it even enters your home

No matter how conscious you are at what comes into your home, unfortunately clutter can creep into your home, in the form of junk mail or freebies.  It is important that you deal with it immediately.  If you are tempted to purchase random stuff…just leave the shop to stop the urge.
