Tips to keep kitchen countertops & sink clutter free

As cliche as it may sound, the kitchen is the heart of the home.  It is one of the rooms that is used by all the family, on a daily basis and gets dirty the fastest.  It can sometimes feel overwhelming, with a sink full of dishes and clutter on the kitchen countertop.  Hereunder find some tips to keep kitchen countertops and sink, clutter free.

1. Use a tray for everyday cooking items.

Containing items, is key to keep any space looking neat and tidy.  During dinner time, we all take out a number of ingredients, and some might prefer to leave some of the most used items on the kitchen countertop.  In order to keep your countertop tidy, place your most used cooking items, on a nice tray.

2. Declutter regularly

It’s essential to declutter on a regular basis.  Due to lifestyle changes, we might not use particular gadgets as frequently as before, and it would make more sense to let go of them.  Decluttering will allow us to use the space better both inside our cupboards and on our kitchen countertop.

3. Only leave items you use everyday on the countertop

Gadgets can be bulky, and if left on the kitchen countertop 24/7, it will make the space look cluttered.  Leave out items that you use on a daily basis such as a coffee machine or air fryer.  Any gadgets/items that you don’t use daily can be stored in your cupboards…hence why decluttering (point 2) is important.  Always be mindful of the gadgets you purchase.  If a gadget can make the work of 2 items, then opt for that.

4. Clean as you go along

Don’t let dishes accumulate in the sink during the day.  Wash them as you go along.  This means that when dinner time comes, you don’t have to wash the dishes already in the sink and the dishes from dinner time.  If you have a dishwasher, then make sure you place dirty dishes in the dishwasher.

5. Never ever go to bed with the sink full of dirty dishes

There is no better feeling then waking up to a clean kitchen, ready for the day.  A clean kitchen does not magically happen, but the work needs to be put in the previous night.  After dinner, wash your dishes or put your dishes into the dish washer.  Waking up with a sink full of dishes will make you feel overwhelmed and will start your day on the wrong foot.

It is understandable that clutter accumulates in the kitchen, since the whole family tends to gather there.  However, if everything has a place, it is easy to relocate items that don’t belong in the kitchen.
