6 realistic time management tips for busy mums

Are you tired of seeing mums on social media, who seem to manage their day so effortlessly?! Am sure that they have their bad days too, so don’t be fooled.  On the other hand, we busy mums want realistic time management tips not social media perfect tips…because not everyone has a tumble dryer, a robot, a slow cooker, an air fryer or any other fancy gadget.

If you have, then all well and good and you should definitely make good use of them especially any delayed timer features.

If you don’t have, don’t despair the below are realistic time management tips that are actually realistic.

1. WAKE UP EARLY

If you have s**t to do then don’t stay lazying in bed.  Wake up before the kids do.  During this extra time in the morning get dressed, have your coffee, and enjoy the silence before the kids wake up.  There is nothing worse than waking up in a rush.

2. HAVE A GOOD BREAKFAST

This may sound a cliche` but having a good breakfast or whatever you fancy even if it’s a coffee will start the day of the right foot.  If you know that without your coffee you feel cranky, don’t skip it…because your day won’t be good at all.  Life happens…but make it a priority.

3. MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS OCCUPIED

If you need to get things done, then your child need to stay occupied so you can focus.  One of the major distractions for adults nowadays are mobile phones.  Therefore either switch off all notifications, put it on silence or else give it your child.  Don’t feel guilty about it…this should not happen everyday 24/7 but when you absolutely need things to be done.

4. LEARN TO SAY NO

Sometimes we tend to commit to more to what we can chew.  That is why most likely you are so busy.  There is nothing to feel guilty about.  Some find pleasure in being busy, rushing from one thing to another but let’s be real that is not a healthy lifestyle because at some point you will break.  Not being busy does not make you lazy…but someone who chooses how to spend their time wisely.

5. USE TIME SAVING SERVICES

Shop for groceries online and have everything delivered to your home.  No need to leave the house, try to find parking, roam around the aisle, wait to pay and then drop everything at home.  If delivery service is not available, for any reason whatsoever, then opt for pick up service.  Both options save you time.

6. HAVE A TO DO LIST

Don’t try to do a never-ending to do list, because you will NOT DO IT.  Be realistic, and write 3 items as your priority.  If you wish to list a couple more do so, but focus on your priorities.  If not done, then move them to another day and start with them.

Most of the times we expect too much from ourselves.  We need to learn to lower our expectations and stop comparing ourselves to others.  You know your own situation…you don’t know the reality behind social media.  Having a helper to come and clean your home is definitely a help, having a robot to vacuum the floors is an additional help…but reality is that not everyone can afford it and that’s OK.
