Common Kitchen Organisational Mistakes

Common Kitchen Organisational Mistakes

The kitchen is the most used room in your home and if it is disorganised, then it is a recipe for disaster.  You need to find your cooking supplies and ingredients for a pleasant experience. Your kitchen has to be functional and yet aesthetically pleasing, but how do you achieve that balance?  Here are some of the most common kitchen organisational mistakes

1. Mistake #1 –Too many appliances on your kitchen countertop

Too much appliances on the countertop, will make the kitchen look cluttered.  Only keep those items that you use on a daily basis…however if you have enough space to put all your gadgets away then by all means go ahead

2. Mistake #2 – Not using vertical space well

Your kitchen cupboards shelves come at a standard size, but either adjusting the shelf height or using risers will be a game changer.  As we store small items in cupboards, there would be a lot of vertical space wasted that can be used better.

3. Mistake #3 – Buying organisers without decluttering

Yes your kitchen needs to be decluttered too. Obviously check food expiry dates, but also you need to go through your gadgets, utensils and cutlery and let go of items that you don’t use and not planning on using in the foreseeable future.

4. Mistake #4 – Buying the wrong food containers / organisers

The wrong containers can cause even more clutter.  If you are considering decanting your food, be careful what containers you choose for which food.  It depends also on your lifestyle.  If you use pasta on a regular basis, then opt for large glass jars.  If you like to have baking items on hand, but you don’t bake often then opt for containers that stack on each order.

5. Mistake #5 – Your spices are not organized

Spices elevate your dish to the next level, therefore having them organised is a non-starter.  If you plan on decanting your spices, make sure you get your labels first and then decant.

6. Mistake #6 – Organising everything by item and not by need

It is important to create zones in your kitchen.  Work in zones for example your coffee cups don’t necessarily have to be next to your drinking glasses.  It makes more sense to your coffee cups next to your coffee machine.

7. Mistake #7 – Styling before organizing

Don’t start decorating your kitchen before you have organised everything.  You might want to display some of your pots, rather than adding new decor.
