February is finally over…..

Finally February is over…..it was a challenging month – one after the other.  There were a lot of firsts and  my level of patience went out of the roof several times.

February started with the first biggest challenge…..the commencement of Kindergarten for my 3-year old.  I would never, in a million years have imagined how difficult it would have been for him to adapt to the new routine.  Since he had been attending childcare, I assumed that he would have a smooth transition….but I was totally wrong.

First day of school, was not that bad, but from then on it was a nightmare….to say the least.  The tantrums started when he started Breakfast Club.  He categorically refused to go into the school building.  The first seven days of breakfast club were hell…..stamping of feet, crying, laying on the floor and then one fine day he went in as if nothing happened before.  The day it happened, I cried with joy and wanted to kiss the school floor.

However, the biggest challenge was and still is, the use of the toilet at school.  He has been potty trained since December and when at childcare never had an accident and used the toilet on a regular basis (mind you he had his favorite toilet and would only use that one).  Since he started school, he had a regression and started having accidents every single day for the first 2 weeks.  I do understand, that at this age when faced with a stressful situation such a new school, children can have a regression but it has been causing a lot of stress.

I work outside the home, and receiving a call every single day to go and change him because he wet himself, was not easy (even if you have the most understanding boss, it is a nuisance).  These last couple of days the situation has improved….he still does not use the school bathroom but at least he does not wet himself.  At some point, some day he will succumb and use the school toilet.

The other challenge was with my daughter.  This was her first time doing exams.  As per the teacher’s direction we did a study plan and the first week and a half we followed it to a tee.  However, after that it started to get crazy….. always making excuses not to study.  I did not wish to stress her out and cause any anxiety about the exams…..but obviously since they have to be done, I want her to do well.

February was a whirlwind of emotions…..I cried and lost my temper many times and what is the shortest month seemed the longest.   I felt disheartened and miserable on several occasions, incapable of finding a solution.  Somehow things are falling into place now and though still not out of the woods, especially with the little one but I am seeing light at the end of the tunnel.  To entice him to use the toilet I bought a 3-in-1 toilet trainer and so far so good but will let you know more about it after using it for a couple of weeks.

Let’s hope March will bring better things.

Love
