Gone are the days, when the house was clean 24/7…….nowadays keeping it clean for 4hrs is already an achievement.

Kids and a clean house do not go well together.  I implement routines to help me keep on track, organise and declutter as much as possible…..but then the kids come in and it’s a whirlwind of toys, paper and all sorts of junk.  They are a dirt making machine.

With small kids, it is very difficult to maintain a clean house and am conscious of the fact that in order to express their creativity there will be a mess.  However, it is frustrating, (after having cleaned the floor), you find drops of juice or after putting together their room, you turn around and see it all messed up again.  It seems that despite my continual effort to teach my teach kids to put things away and do age appropriate chores, I am going round in circles, and have not reached my goal.

So, how do I manage to keep a relatively clean house?!! Let’s be clear….my understanding of clean is not on the same lines so to the level of cleanliness in my house but am working to get there.

  1. I make sure that before I leave the house the beds are done;
  2. Any dirty clothes are put in the laundry basket;
  3. No dishes are left in the sink;
  4. Toys are put away;
  5. Pillows and cushions are fluffed and in place;
  6. Mail – junk mail is thrown away whilst bills are set aside for payment;
  7. Children’s crafts are hung up / stored in designated place;
  8. No clutter running around;
  9. Set up a cleaning schedule.
