What Motivates you?

Whilst writing this blog I looked up the definition of motivation and it is the “internal and external factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continually interested and committed to a job, role or subject, or to make an effort to attain a goal”.  So what is that things that motivates you to keep going when you feel like quitting?

rachel-lynette-french-751161-unsplash.jpgRaise your hand if sometimes you lose your motivation whether it is at your place of work or within your family……if I could I would raise even my legs.  As a parent, you want to be of a good example to your kids, and be their role model for them, but that does not mean that we have to portray ourselves as ‘perfect’.   It is ok to show your vulnerability, that you cannot always be on top of things and that you need to be motivated at times.  Your imperfections make you perfect because they make you a human being with emotions.  Whoever wants to depict a perfect life, is just a faker because everyone loses it sometime or another, they are just too afraid to admit their flaws.

I am the first one to say to admit that I am not perfect….hence the blog name Strugglingmum….I struggle with many things in my life and one of them is keeping motivated because sometimes you just want to quit. Being organized does help with motivation but there are days when I do a million and one things, and other days that I have no motivation whatsoever.  There are days, where a simple ‘thank you’ or a smile just gives me the motivation to move forward but there are other days which is not that easy.

When I get demotivated, that is a sign……I need to stop, think and assess.  Once I identify what is demotivating me, I evaluate how to reverse the process.  For example, sometimes I have no motivation at all to clean the house, so I stop, think and assess and most likely I would have lost the motivation because of the repetitive nature and know that after a few hours it will be a mess again.  When I evaluate, I know that when my house is clean/clutter free I am less stressed out but still I need that extra effort to do it so I identify what makes me happy.  Implementing new organizational systems or putting on music whilst cleaning, or setting a timer to make it a challenge helps with motivation.  So just find that thing that motivates you and do it.

Just a word of advice….do not take notice of what people think or say especially those who want to put you down….only you know what is best for you and your family.

I just hope that this blog post helped you to keep motivated and not give up.  You are doing a great job….raising kids, balance family and work is not easy…..whoever says it is does not know what s/he is talking about and like Dory said “keep on swimming”.

Love
