What’s in my beach bag

Online school if off, and pool/beach season is in full swing.   This means that our beach bag starts being packed with towels, goggles, toys and sun creams.  You all know that I love organizing, and having an organized beach bag is essential to keep me sane even when outside the home.

Here is what’s in my beach bag (and what are my essentials and how to organize it)

What's in my beach bag

1. The larger the bag the better

There are different beach bags on the market, and I got mine a few years ago (cannot remember from where though).  I love it because I can fit so much in it, however if it would stand up alone it would have been better.  If you are able to enjoy lonely trips to the beach, then you might not need such a large bag.

2. Towels

You would need at least one towel per person.  I like to roll them up, and organize them standing up.  It is important to see what you have in your bag at a glance.  No one wants to divide in for stuff.

3. Sun block, sun glasses etc

Sun block and  sunglasses are 2 essential items to have in your beach bag.  You might want to add other bits and pieces, like hair products, hair bands, brush and so on.  The best way to organize small items, is to use pockets.  I use pockets, practically in every bag I own.  It just makes it so easy to get things.

4. Talcum Powder

Say what?!  Yes you heard me well….talcum powder is an essential item in my beach bag in particular if we are going to a sandy beach.  We all know how sand sticks to everything, and there is nothing worse then dragging all the sand into the car and the house.

The solution is talcum powder (any brand would do).  As soon as you are ready from the beach, find somewhere to sit (not on the sandy beach) and sprinkle talcum powder on your feet (or your kids feet) and rub.  MAGIC!!!! The sand will go away.

5. Gadgets and tech

Whether it’s your mobile phone or your kindle, you definitely don’t want to get them wet.  I store my mobile phone in a stasher bag.  If you have never heard of stasher bags, these are multipurpose and reusable bags (instead of plastic) that can be placed in the freezer, microwave and dishwasher.  As such they are waterproof.  I bought mine from Beleaf, Malta.

6. Kids toys & entertainment

Everyone loves building sand castles, whilst at the beach.  But these come with buckets, spades and various shapes & forms.  For these kind of toys, I would recommend a netted bag, cause it makes it easier to clean.  Just put all the toys in the bag and rinse in water.  Let your kids be in charge of these toys.

However, if you are going to a pool, you still might want to take some toys.  I place my son’s toys in a plastic bag, so they are not all over the beach bag.  The same applies for books….I keep them in plastic bags.

7. Snacks and drinks

Again, this really depends whether you are going to a beach or a pool.  However, water bottles and a couple of snacks are always essential.  If you are going to a pool, have a small lunch bag that fits in your beach bag, otherwise you can opt for a larger cooler bag.
