Only a week and a half, and we’re done with this scholastic year. I knew it was not going to be easy, but never expected it to be such a whirlwind of emotions.

  • SURVIVING PRE-KINDER

If you have been following my blog for quite some time, you know that my 3yrs started kinder in February 2019. My concern was more about potty training rather than his transition from childcare to school. The school was a familiar ambience for him (since my daughter attends Skolasajf in the same school), so did not think it was going to be an issue.

But I was completely off track. The first month was horrible…he had really bad tantrums every morning and he had a regression in potty training. I cried every morning and I remember that the first time he went in without crying I was over the moon.

After a month, he got used to the new routine. Every now and then he did have accidents (potty training wise) but there has been great improvement.

Academically, I saw change as well. He now started saying the numbers and shapes. His speech has improved and talks more, though sometimes I don’t understand him.

During the summer months, he will continue attending summer school, in the same school, with the hope that in September/October it will be easier.

  • SURVIVING GRADE 4

What can I say?! It’s been another challenge. Grade 4 meant exams for the first time. Honestly I was more stressed than my daughter, and although I tried not to transmit my anxiousness onto my daughter, it was not easy.

At the moment, of writing this blog, she is still doing her annual exams. I hope that she does well, as in order to motivate her, we promised her something that she really loves……for the time being it’s a secret but will definitely let you know what it is in due course.

Some of you might not agree with giving rewards for achieving good results and to a certain extent I agree. But to save my sanity and motivate her, it had to be done.

It has not been easy for my daughter either. There have been various other circumstances, that made her lose some of her self-confidence. That played an important role.

As you can see, it has not been easy scholastic year…despite starting with all the good intentions from my end to be patient and present.

However, things do not always go as planned. Sometimes there might be issues which we might not be fully aware of, but which play an important role in the ongoing of things.

But now it’s over and let’s hope for a good summer and a better scholastic year.

Love
