Healthy Eating Habits

Whether you have a toddler or a teenager, you want your kids to eat healthy and lead a healthy lifestyle.  This is not always easy, and it is inevitable that occasionally you would end up at the drive through.

The older they get the more difficult it is to control their eating habits.  However you can control what comes into your house and what you pack for their lunches (though with fussy eaters this can be difficult).

Kids are eating all the time…..and snacking is an integral part of their diet.  When my daughter was still very young, I set up cupboard in my kitchen with the snacks she was allowed to have.  Snacks which needed to be kept in the fridge, were kept low enough for her to reach.  A fundamental rule is that, when reaching for a snack first to opt for a fruit or vegetable, next something savory and last for sweets.  My son quickly followed suit and when he wants a snack he knows where to go.

Preparing different lunches everyday, is tiresome…..so as much as possible during dinner time I cook a little bit extra so it can be taken for lunch the following day.  Children go through phases and one day they like something – the following day they hate it.

If you are the person responsible for grocery shopping, then it is your responsibility of what food gets into your household.  If you are surrounded by healthy food, then your kids are likely to eat healthy.  Involving kids in the preparation of dinner and lunches makes them appreciate more goes into it.

We try the best we can, but life happens and sometimes we end up going at the drive through or stop at the pastizzi shop.  There is nothing wrong with that, as long as it does not become a daily thing.  Such instances should be once in a while.

Enjoy your food.
