We are now spending more time indoors, but nonetheless we feel a decrease in our energy and productivity levels.  We are required to juggle work, homeschooling, cooking whilst confined into our own homes.  In this blog posts here are 10 tips to increase your energy and productivity:

1. REDUCE STRESS

In the current situation, for many the levels of stress and anxiety have substantially increased.  It is reasonable!!! However, high levels of stress undoubtedly lead to fatigue, irritability and lack of motivation.

  • Take deep breaths –  whenever you feel your stress levels are getting out of control, STOP and take deep breaths.  In hale through your nose and exhale through your mouth.
  • Plan your time running around like a headless chicken, with tons of things to do but no plan of actions increases your stress levels.  Take your time to sit down and plan your days / weeks.  Writing down the simplest of tasks such as take a shower you increase the feeling of accomplishment.
  • Write things down – maybe this might be the right time to start a journal.  Writing down your thoughts, fears and worries alleviates the burden from your mind and body.
  • Learn to say NO – you cannot please everyone.  If you are chewing more than you can take, you need to learn to say NO.
  • Lavendar oil – it is well known that lavendar oild helps reduce stress, so add some drops to your diffusor for additional benefits.

2. DO NOT OVERWORK

Another reason why we lose energy and motivation is of overworking.  Working from home, can instill the feeling of not having a line between home and work, which can result into overworking.  There is no need to have all of the things done, all the time.  It is OK to have the least important things left undone.

3. GET SOME EXERCISE DONE

Another reason for low energy levels is not having enough exercise.  Schedule at least 15min a day of physical activity, even if we are staying indoors.  You can find tons of resources online.  If you manage to fit in exercise in the morning, it will give you extra energy boost that will last all day.

4. SLEEP, SLEEP, SLEEP

Lack of sleep is definitely one of the main culprits for lack of energy and productivity.  In fact, many revert to sleep when they lack energy.  As mentioned above learning to say no is key, and will allow you to say yes to sleep.  Make sure to block 7 – 8 hrs of sleep.

5. EATING A HEALTHY DIET

We all know that eating a healthy diet is beneficial to our bodies.  Your body needs good nutritious food to function properly.  Part of having a healthy diet, is to refrain from consuming sugar, which causes blood sugar levels to spike up.  We all know that sugar gives a burst of energy that won’t last long.  Hand in hand with this is to drink more water.  It is easier said than done, but being dehydrated will make you feel fatigued.  So keep a refillable bottle next to you.

6. EAT CHOCOLATE, YES CHOCOLATE!

Yes, you read correctly!!! Eat chocolate….but dark chocolate with no added sugar.  Chocolate contains caffeine and will help boost your energy level quickly.

7. GET FRESH AIR

During COVID-19 period this is very difficult to do, but if you have a roof, yard or even a small terrace make sure to spend some time outside.  As the days get longer and the weather is getting warmer, it is important to enjoy some sun (always wear protection).

8. FEEL ENERGIZED BY ADJUSTING YOUR POSTURE

Just by making some adjustments to your posture will instantly make you feel better.  During this period that we are inside, possibly working from home, we tend to lack movement and lead a more sedentary lifestyle.  Therefore, having a good posture will improve your body efficiency.
