Managing your home like a business

If you have a business, you know that having a plan and assigning task is crucial so you can focus on growing your business. However,  we might manage our business exceptionally well but then when it comes to the household we feel lost.  I am sure many can relate, especially now that many are working from home.  The trick is to manage your household like it was a business.

1. PREPARE

If you are a teacher, you attend class prepared. If you need to give a presentation or attend an important meeting, you always go prepared with the necessary documentation.  You possibly have a vision and a mission statement for your business.  In your home it should be the same.  Prepare in advance whether you are homeschooling or whether you need to prepare dinner.

2. HAVE A PLAN

Have a plan on how you are going to run your household.  Identify who is going to carry out maintenance to your property, how the bills will be paid and how is the house going to be cleaned.  In businesses there is the business plan, but in your home there is a plan of how things will be carried out.

3. THE TEAM

If you run a business, you know that it is not a one man show – you have your accountant, your HR person and your sales people.  The family members in your home are your team members and as the children grow older, they can be active participants.  We should learn how to deligate chores like we do in a business.

4. THE FINANCES

WhiLst in business you have the financial controller who takes care of the financial aspect of the company, at home you need someone who is in charge of the finances.  Someone has to be responsible of the family budget because like a business it cannot run without money.
