How to decorate the Christmas Tree

If you believe in Christmas, then decorating your home is part of the tradition.  Decorating the Christmas tree can sometimes be daunting because you want the designer look but either you feel you do not have what it takes or else you do not have the patience.  So here are some tips how to decorate your Christmas tree like a Pro.

Before start decorating, make sure you have a clear idea on how you want the Christmas tree to look like, the color scheme or a theme.

1. Fluff the tree branches

Whatever style your is, make sure to spend time to fluff the tree.  Open the branches and make them straight.  This can take quite some time, but you will thank yourself later.  Start from the bottom of the tree and work yourself up.

2. Lights, Lights, Lights

The second most important thing for the Christmas tree are the lights.  It is recommended that for every 1 foot of Christmas tree, you have 100 lights.  Place the lights at the back of the tree, so it seems as if light is coming out from the tree and like that you would also be hiding the wire.

3. Tree topper first

It is common use to put the tree topper last, but for practicality purposes you should be putting it first.  Now you have to work from top to bottom.  If you put your decorations first it is very likely that when you put your Christmas tree topper you would knock down some ornaments.

4. Ribbon, flowers and such

Now that you have put your Christmas tree topper move to the ribbon, flowers and sprigs.  Sometimes the Christmas tree topper needs some additional decorations, so now it the time to do it.  If you are using ribbon, do not just wrap the ribbon around the tree, but tuck it into the tree, to give the illusion that the ribbon is coming out of the tree.  When tucking the ribbon into the tree, secure the ribbon with one of the branches.

5. Ornaments

Always start from your larger ornaments. Tuck large ornaments into the tree, this will give the impression that they are part of the Christmas tree.  If you have many ornaments, hang some of them at the back of the branches….that creates depth and interest.

If this is your first Christmas decorating the Christmas tree, do not spend too much on the ornaments.  For the first year invest on the Christmas tree, lights, ribbon and a few large ornaments.  Next year, you can buy more ornaments.
