Birthday Celebrations

Cannot believe my daughter is turning 9yrs this weekend.  Time flies by so quickly.  I can still clearly recall the day she was born……after months waiting we had finally met our first child.  She is a sensitive girl, yet determined to achieve what she wants.  Sometimes or most of the times she drives me crazy but would not change anything.

The timing is not great, just after Christmas as would still be with the post Christmas blues and would need to start planning for a birthday party.  We no longer hold birthday parties, but had my fair share of organizing birthday parties.  Mind you, I will soon start all over again, with my son.

When we were out of parties, would organize sleepovers….invited a couple of her friends and they enjoyed playing games, watching movies and eating the birthday cake and all the goodies I used to prepare.

Nowadays, we keep it simpler and opt to spend time as family and do an activity of her choice.  At times she does missing having a birthday party, but let’s face it the older they get the more difficult it is to get fresh ideas.

One thing I splurge on for her birthday though, is the cookies she takes to school.  Every year I choose a different theme, depending on what she is into at the moment, and order the cookies accordingly.  Candyliciousmalta from where I order the cookies are always very helpful.  When she was into Shopkins, the cookies were Shopkins themed, the following year it was Minecraft and this year will be Roblox cookies.  They always are a success with her friends.

If you are going down the route of organizing a birthday party here are my tips:

  1. Choose a theme – depending of your child’s age and favorite character.  Once it has been identified you can work around it…..by getting invitations, tableware, cake, decorations and animation.

2.  Guest list and invitations – if in your guest list you are inviting school friends, include all the children in the child’s class.  Children at a young age can take it badly not being invited for a birthday party…..it is better you do not invite anyone than inviting a few.  Apart from stating the obvious on the invitation, such as date, time and venue make sure to indicate any special details such as “bring socks”.

3.  Venue – nowadays there is an array of places where to organise your child’s birthday party.  Your decision might depend on the theme chosen.

4.  Decorations & Animation – in the majority of cases, the venue where you are organizing your child’s birthday party would take care of the decorations and animation.  However, if you have something particular in mind, make sure to discuss it with where you are holding the party.  If the venue does not provide decorations and animation then you have to think for them yourself.

5.  Food choices – if you have been notified that one your guests has a food intolerance, make sure to inform your cater and possible provide an alternative.  If the parents are staying with the children, provide at least coffee, tea, water and some nibbles.

6.  Party Bags – the choice of party bags can continue with the theme of the party.  Be mindful to have enough party bags for everyone and with gifts for boys and girls.

7.  On the day – on the day of the party do not arrive late.  Arrive early so you make sure everything is according to your expectations.

8.  Relax – Enjoy the day with your child and relax.

I hope you found the above tips useful when coming to organizing your child’s birthday party.  Remember it is your child’s birthday party and not a wedding…..so do not go overboard.

Love
