How can a Home Organizer Help me?

How can a home organizer help me?

It’s a new year, and one of this year’s resolution is to get your house organized.  Probably there has been a project that you have been postponing for years, but this year you plan to plunge the courage and do it.  Possibly this project has been as your resolution or on your to-do list for years but never got yourself to do.  The reasons might vary.  Maybe it’s time to get someone to help you.

Who hasn’t heard of Marie Kondo and The Home Edit?  Possibly if you have watched The Home Edit show on Netflix, you have already bought a bunch of containers with the intention of getting organized.  If you are not careful, you might end up with extra containers that you don’t know what to do with them…meaning you spent money for nothing.

Home Organizers are relatively new to the Maltese islands and many might be reluctant to let anyone into their homes, or else feel that they can do a job as good as that of a Home Organizer.  Without doubt there are many that can do on their own…but how many actually get down to doing it?  How many times do you postpone it?  How many times do you feel overwhelmed?  How many times redo a space because it’s not working?

1. What does a Home Organizer actually do?

A professional home organizer helps organize any physical and digital spaces, whether it’s a walk-in closet, a kitchen, a garage or a home offices.  The professional home organizer, will offer support through the decision process when it comes to decluttering and setting up systems that are tailor made for their clients.

It is not just about organizing a space, but a professional home organizer builds a relationship with the client. Such a relationship will help get into the roots of why they are finding it difficult to let go of things or why the client is unable to be as productive as they should be.

A Professional Home Organizer is NOT a CLEANER.

They will not clean your windows or wash the floors.

2. Do you need a Professional Home Organizer?

The majority of people are confident enough to tackle their own organization projects.  However, when it starts becoming overwhelming, many most likely to stop…making the space worse than before.  It could be that your schedule is too busy,  but yet you acknowledge the fact that something needs to be done.  If that’s the case, then it’s time to consider hiring a professional home organizer.

Here are some reasons why people need a Home Organizer:

  • They don’t know how to get their space organized and where to start;
  • They don’t have the time to do it themselves;
  • They just don’t want to do it themselves;
  • They are moving and want assistance in setting up their new home.

But what should you expect from a home organizer?

A professional home organizer would need to understand your lifestyle, so as to implement the right systems for you and your family.  They will work with you and help you decide what to keep and what can be let go.  In some instances, they will also facilitate the disposal, sale or donation of the items that are being let go (make sure you are clear about this when hiring a professional home organizer).

Your input would be required throughout the process, in particular when it comes to identify what to keep and what not.  Therefore, you would need to stay at home whilst they are working on your space.

3. Will a Home Organizer make me feel embarrassed?

A Professional Home Organizer, is not there to make you feel embarrassed or make fun of you.  The understand the fears you might have and that you might feel ashamed, but a professional home organizer will never judge your home or you.  This does not mean that they won’t be telling you some harsh truths, but it will always be done in a respectful and loving way.

A professional home organizer, is there to make your life easier and more efficient.  Sometimes you just need an objective opinion to help you move forward.  A Professional Home Organizer will offer various options for your space, that you might not have considered previously.  You space need not look just like it came out of a catalogue, but it needs to work for you and your lifestyle.

When choosing a Professional Home Organizer make sure you resonate with them.  You need to feel comfortable.  The Home Organizer should ask you lots of questions, not to be nosy, but to get to know you and your lifestyle better.
