6 Tips to Organise a small space

6 tips to organise a small space

Today’s apartments and houses are becoming smaller and smaller. Storing and organising a small space can indeed be challenging.   Even so if  you have children, however with a few tweaks here and there, you could still have a beautiful and functional space.

Continue reading if you want how to maximise your space.

1. Declutter

Your first step is to do a good decluttering session. Go through each and every drawer and cupboard and take time to determine what you actually need.  This process may take a weeks, if not months but it’s an important step than should not be skipped.  Decluttering is an ongoing process, but as you go along it gets easier and easier.

2. Maximise your storage

As you are going through the decluttering process, take note of what has not been working and what has worked.  Dumping stuff into your cupboards and drawers, would make it look untidy and make you waste a lot of space.  Consider adding some bins, drawer dividers or any organisational tools that will not only make the most of your space but also make it easy for you to see what you have.

3. Use the back of your door

Many times the back of doors is forgotten when it comes to organising.  However, when it comes to organising a small space, your door can offer extra storage.  Use the back of your door by using over the door hangers and use hanging shoe organisers to get small items organised (not only shoes).  You can organise make up, cleaning supplies or even small toys.

4. Use vertical space

If you are still into designing stages, than make sure to design your cupboards to the heights possible.  If you have already moved in, then adding shelves can do the trick.  In your cupboards make sure to use your vertical space to the maximum.  You can do this by adding a shelf riser or even adding a tension rod to create hanging storage.

5. Make use of under the bed

Again, if you are still in the planning stage of your bedroom, make sure your bed has storage.  If this is not possible, then  you can invest in bins designed specifically to slide under the bed.  This allows you to store off season items.  If you need to store clothes than make sure to use vacuum bags.

6. Put things away

Any space can look messy, if there is clutter all over the place.  Living in a small space, items laying around makes the space look even smaller.  It is therefore important to put things away as soon as possible.  If you have the right organisational systems, this would only take a few minutes. If you are unable to do this on a daily basis, then make sure to spend sometime every week to put things away.

It is not impossible to organise a small space.  One needs to be more mindful of what comes into your home.  Making use of every single nook and cranny in your home in an intelligent way is crucial.
